It’s the end of the year and we all need a project that will keep students engaged! This end of the year project creating walk-up songs for historical figures was a huge hit with students.
Are your students climbing the walls?
It’s all I can do after standardized testing is over to keep my students from going crazy. If I hear “can I go to the restroom” one more time, I might pull my hair out. I needed a fun activity that would keep my students engaged and this historical walk up song assignment was a blast.
How does it work?
- Students pick a person from history.
- They research key events associated with that person.
- They research songs titles or themes that match their person.
- They send the link to the teacher and the class guesses.
Ways to modify . . .
- Have students work in pairs or small groups
- Come up with a list of 30-40 people from history to choose from. This will serve as a “word bank” for students to pick from and focus on.
- Have students create a slide deck with clues to the person that they share (or the teacher shares) with the class.
- Have students “guess” on whiteboards (holding up to the class after the song plays)
Of course, I’m a big fan of competitive games at the end of the year, too!
